Greetings everyone,

As you can see the new rejigged web site is much easier to access and peruse. If you have been over to the Club, and I certainly hope that you have, you will have noticed a few changes. Certainly the rains have improved the look of the grassed areas and with the coming of spring everything is starting to grow again, and the gardens are looking great.

The revamped Constitution has now been accepted by ASIC and is now part of our guiding system for years to come. It has been a long time coming and the effort that Phil Maschmeidt put into the rehashing of the entire thing is really commendable. I offer Phil my thanks on behalf of the membership of the Club for a job well done.

The Club golf competition is over for the year and all that remains now is for me to table the scores and present the winners trophies at the annual presentation night. It would be nice to see more people enter the comp next year, it is quite a good course on Straddie and the company is excellent.

In an endeavor to keep the club for our members new closures have been installed on access doors and a swipe key is needed to enter. These can be obtained from the Club or contact Kel to arrange yours. This has been done in an effort to keep the Club for you, the members.

As some of you may be aware the Club took the opportunity of hosting a display at the last boat show in an effort to present ourselves to a larger group of boaties and I believe the effort was well worthwhile. We managed to encourage some new members to join our ranks so why not come over to the next new members day and enjoy the Club’s surrounds in their company. Everyone is welcome.

Boat outings are proving to be a popular event, with the last one at Horseshoe Bay being an absolute hoot. Those members sporting medals the next day were as proud of them as any Olympian I have seen. Watch out for more of the same next year!

E news is being sent, if not every week through lack of topic, but as often as can be typed, when there is something to tell. Any snippets of interesting news or happenings are always welcome and e-mails can be sent to me at rod@littleshipclub.com.au. Every little bit helps.

In an effort to combat bad behavior and such, the video camera surveillance is working well. Almost all corners of our grounds are covered and allows for call back at any time on any camera.

Did anyone travel up the river for the fireworks or did you stay for the Stomp? I do believe both functions were well attended with the music at the Club lasting well into the night. I could not go to either but all reports were good.

AGM coming up on the 2nd. November. It would be pleasant to see some new faces in the crowd for a change and all members are welcome of course. It is not really such a bad affair but it is necessary. And later in the month, 22nd. to be exact, is the famous Straddie Oyster Festival which looks like being bigger and better than last year’s. Put the date in your calendar because if you miss it you will have to wait until next year.

I hope to see you at the Club soon,
Rod Johnston
Commodore

Membership Report September 2008

Hi everyone, I trust all is well. First of all I have to say that the membership drive at the recent boat show was a huge success. Commodore Rod and Secretary Kel really pushed this event and with help from Board members (Yes Maurie that includes you now) it was a chance to invite members of the public to participate in your Club. We had at the last board meeting 28 new member applications which has been the highest for one month seen for many years. Well done Commodore Rod for following this event through.

The latest major event regarding membership was tightening up the swing mooring conditions and also the security to the club.

An open day was held last Sunday 14th August to explain the reasons behind these new changes and to give members the chance to ask any questions they may have had concerning these changes. Unfortunately there was a last minute change to the agenda and the meeting did not go as planned. However I believe I had the opportunity to speak to most people who attended on an individual basis and trust I answered all your queries. If I missed anyone I do apologize and if you need to talk to me I am readily available.

There has been a lot of interest regarding the new security key system and the take up of the keys has been very strong. If you are arriving by boat the signage has been organised to make it easier to see where you either need to use your key or the intercom system. The child lock system has been changed as using the key at the same time as the child lock system proved very difficult. However ensuring the protection of children using the ramp is always a priority.

The first day of using the key system gave all involved some challenges but like most things with change it takes a little time. Already I have received reports that people who have been using the club at random have decided to join our club. This is the point we have tried to achieve. Only vigilance of this system will stop its deterioration and usage in the following years and to ensure your rights as members are protected.

New Members Day

The next new members day is being held on Sunday, 26th October starting at approximately 12.00 p.m. The Agenda includes an introduction from me plus a quick history of the Club from the Commodore followed by a sausage sizzle.

ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE JOINED AND APPOVED FROM THE 20TH APRIL UNTIL THE 26th OCTOBER MUST ADVISE ME OF THEIR INTENTIONS TO ATTEND THIS EVENT TO RECEIVE THEIR SPECIAL GIFT PACK INCLUDING BURGEES (Valued over $30), Stubby coolers, club history and information booklet.

AGAIN YOU MUST REGISTER WITH ME GIVING ME YOUR NAME (AND WIFE OR PARTNER) & BOAT NAME PRIOR TO 19TH OCTOBER. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL NOT ENABLE YOUR GIFT TO BE ORGANISED. OF COURSE IF YOU DON’T THAT DOESN’T MEAN YOUR COMPANY IS NOT WELCOME.

Cheers,
John Klose
Membership Chairman

Bay Outing Report

Well it looks as though the weather is warming up and with a little luck the weather may come from the South East. So we are going to try to get back to our spot which cancelled last cruise being Blakeley’s on the 11th and 12th October.

The format is that there will be a barbeque on the beach starting around 1.00 p.m. with some games organized to fill in the afternoon. Hopefully we will see all the stalwarts as well as new members join in for the day to meet and greet. A special invitation is to members who have not been to a Bay Cruise before to attend as the last few outings to say the least have been terrific. I will also be contacting the Fairways Owners Group and the Redland Boat Club and hopefully our boating friendship will strengthen.

It was remiss of me at the last board meeting to obtain permission to supply complimentary champagne for our somewhat traditional Sunday Breakfast. However I will pursue this but remember the rules. The Club will only supply one bottle of champagne per club member’s boat who registers with me on the Thursday prior to the event. Normally you could register with Arthur Mobsby or me but Arthur is away. My Email address is jmklose@bigpond.com. Remember to bring your own orange juice. Last outing we went back to the club from Peel and this is always an option to happen again. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Well that’s all from me. Look forward to catching up with you on the bay cruise if not beforehand.

Cheers
John Klose
Rear Commodore

Guidelines for the use of The Little Ship Club’s Swing Moorings

LSC moorings

1. Use of the swing moorings is STRICTLY for current financial members of the LSC and members using these facilities MUST display the club burgee. Failure to display the club burgee while using the swing moorings negates the privilege of using the swing moorings even though the person is a financial member.

2. Booking of the swing mooring is allowed. Vessels who have booked must be tied up by 12 midday of the day of booking. Failure to be tied up by Midday allows members to use the swing moorings on a first come first serve basis. In other words if a member finds a club mooring vacant after midday the mooring is deemed not to be booked. HOWEVER, AFTER TYING UP, IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, MEMBERS MUST REPORT THEIR PRESENCE TO THE CLUB MANAGER TO ENSURE HE IS KEPT UP TO DATE ON CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES.

3. Members arriving before midday and seeing a vacant buoy need to check with the manager to ascertain whether this mooring is booked.

4. Bookings can be made for a maximum of two days and all bookings must be confirmed by telephoning the Manager 24 hours before the date required. Failure to confirm a booking means that the booking is cancelled and the mooring open to use of all members.

5. Members using the swing moorings must vacate by 10.30 a.m. unless booked in advance for the maximum of two days and in that case leave by 10 30 a.m. at the finish of their booking.

6. Members who observe boats using our Club swing moorings NOT flying the Club Burgee MUST check with the Manager first before protecting the clubs assets.
